In the Church, we wait to light up the trees until Christmas Eve because that’s the moment we first celebrate the birth of Christ—the light of the world.
The darkened tree is one of those spiritual reminders that Advent is a time of waiting. We want, with all our heart, to light up the tree because Christ lights up our life. But instead we wait—even though we want to see it— until the moment we celebrate the Good News!
Advent is about the great expectation of what’s to come!
