The Spirituality of Hope in the Advent Readings
Thursday, November 29 from 7:00—8:30 PM
Church of the Holy Spirit
(1451 Bode Road in Schaumburg, 847-882-7580)
Advent is a time of looking for light in the midst of darkness, but the darkness of suffering can be a challenging place to look for hope and light. Come join us as Mary LaMont leads our search through the Advent readings and new developments in theology and psychology for ways to find God’s presence and support during times of suffering.
Questions to be explored include:
What are the spiritual and psychological dimensions of suffering?
How can we see God more clearly to prevent distorted Images of God from deepening our suffering?
Where do we find the good that can emerge from an experience of suffering?
How can we develop strategies for navigating suffering?
This Advent Workshop will give participants an opportunity to interact with each other, with the Advent scriptures, and with new ideas from psychology and theology about how to find hope in a time of suffering.
Mary LaMont, director of The Knocking Door, has a master’s degree in sacramental theology and scripture from Catholic Theological Union and has also taught Scripture and Theology at Loyola Academy for 25 years. She also trained in leading Meditation at the Zen Life Meditation Center.
