A Special Invitation In today’s gospel, we hear the parable about being invited to the king’s wedding feast. That resonates with us here at St. Hubert, because we love celebrations and parties. The Taste of St. Hubert was one of those great times together! Thanks to the Stewards who made it happen for us and sent us the invitation.
Unfortunately, in Jesus’ parable, the people invited to the wedding feast don’t want to go—they have other things to do. So the king extends the invitation to anyone who wants to be there. And they come! The wedding feast is a symbol of eternal life.
Jesus, however, says that those who come have to be dressed for it. They need to wear the wedding garment. We have come to see that means looking like Christ. Not physically, of course, but it is apparent in how we strive to resemble him in the way we live our lives and who we are becoming.
St. Hubert is a place that’s helping to hand out invitations for the great wedding feast, and we’re working together to be the best dressed we can be. Many very talented women and men in our parish are participating and contributing their talents to help us respond to the invitation to be Christ to one another. And there is always an open invitation for those who feel ready to help us grow even more. We have over 40 different ministries and ways to help, which you can learn more about either on-line at sainthubert.org or in the brochures in the gathering space.
As Jesus’ disciples, we’re saying “yes” to the invitation to be with God—now and always.
Michael Green is in Formation to Become a Deacon!
Speaking of saying “yes” to God, I’m blessed to announce that Michael Green, one of our parishioners, is in the Program of Diaconate Formation for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Along with 26 other men from different parishes in the Archdiocese, Mike participated in a special liturgy on October 1 at Mundelein Seminary called the Rite of Admission to Candidacy for Holy Orders.
What this means is that Mike is actively discerning and preparing himself to be ordained a deacon in May 2021. God willing, he will join Deacons Dick Lawson, Steve Baldasti and Allen Tatara in service here at St. Hubert. The Rite of Candidacy is a public affirmation that the Church is walking with Mike on this journey as he discovers more fully God’s will for his life.
To get to this point, Mike has spent the last year learning more about the diaconate, the teachings of the Catholic Church, and how to serve the diversity of people who make up the Archdiocese of Chicago, all the while growing in the spiritual life through prayer, retreats and spiritual direction.
Those of you who know Mike know he is a thoughtful, prayerful, and generous man. He went through the RCIA process here at St. Hubert and since then has discovered that God is pulling him into a committed life of charity and service to our community.
We couldn’t be happier for him and all of us who will be blessed through his on-going service to St. Hubert. Pease keep him, and all of our deacons, in your prayers.
