SOMETHING SOLID In Sunday’s gospel, Jesus hands the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven to Simon who he renames Peter. As we hear, the name Peter means “rock.” Jesus sees how firm his faith is—it’s like a rock that can’t be crushed, broken or shattered. It provides a foundation to build on. That foundation of faith is what keeps the Catholic Church standing. For over 2,ooo years, despite plagues, pandemics, wars, the sinfulness of the clergy, the corruption of popes, heresies, the misinterpretation of doctrine, etc., the Church stands. People try to knock it down, diminish it, crush it and belittle it, just like people did to Jesus. But in the end, goodness prevails, because the Church stands on the same faith as Peter, which will never change. Jesus is the Christ, the anointed one, the one who saves us from our sinfulness and from a world that can often try to defeat us. And that’s why during these months of closing doors, staying at home, adjusting to new kinds of protocols for being together in public spaces, our faith is what holds us up and keeps us on solid ground. When we can’t be together in faith in person, we have the internet and the ability to connect online. That’s what has kept us going. When we stand on the rock of our faith, we can weather the storms around us. And what’s truly important is that we’re standing on the rock together. 4:30 PM SATURDAY MASS TO RESUME ON AUGUST 29th With a new disinfecting and cleaning system, and with our protocols in place to keep us safe and appropriately distanced, we’re ready to resume the 4:30 PM Mass on August 29. That will allow another 108 people (who are ready to come back into a public space) an opportunity to attend. We, of course, will continue with our three Sunday Masses at 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM and Noon. As we go forward, we’ll keep adjusting. SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL: SAINT HUBERT CATHOLIC PARISH We would really like to find a way to live-stream a Mass so that we can also provide an opportunity for those who do not feel comfortable to come inside the church to attend Mass in their cars in the parking lot and to receive communion. To do that on YouTube, we need to have 1,000 subscribers to our channel. Simply access the YouTube site. Search for SAINT HUBERT CATHOLIC PARISH, and then click on the SUBSCRIBE button. It costs nothing and you won’t be bombarded with emails. It will just give us a platform to continue the mission. Spread the word! We need about 700 more subscriptions. GOOD NEWS
We opened the doors to Saint Hubert Catholic School this past Monday for a new school year. Families had an opportunity to choose either face to face learning (with all the detailed protocols in place to keep the children safe and healthy) or to opt for the virtual experience. There were a lot of happy faces Monday morning!
Join parishioner and catechist Mary Sullivan for “What Every Catholic Should Know About the Bible.” It will be conducted over Zoom in 4 sessions beginning on Wednesday, September 9. It’s a great way to learn more about the book of life. See page 7 for more information.
It’s a blessing and privilege to stand on the rock of our faith with you. May God protect you and keep you in his loving care. –Fr. Mike
