Last week we said farewell to Yvonne Cassa, Vito DeFrisco, and Marcia Larson, Liturgy Coordinator, Principal, and Assistant Principal respectively. As a parish, we now move to the next level of transitioning. I am writing this letter as your Pastor, but by the time you read it in print,
Fr. Mike Scherschel will be the new Pastor. June 30, 2017 ends my 12- year term as Pastor. I will be around until October, as a Senior Priest, to help Fr. Mike transition into pastoring. He is the Pastor as of July 1, 2017. Upon my retirement in October, I will become the Pastor Emeritus.
Here are a few important transition dates:
1. Week of July 24. Fr. Mike will arrive after attending workshops on Pastoring, along with making his annual retreat.
2. Weekend of July 29/30, Fr. Mike will celebrate the 4:30 and 6:00 p.m. Masses. On Sunday morning, we will have a welcome reception in the lower church after the 7:30, 9:00, and 10:45 Masses. He will greet parishioners after all the Masses.
3. August 19, Saturday, at the 4:30 Mass Fr. Mike will celebrate and introduce our new principal, Kelly Bourrell. A picnic will follow behind the school to give parishioners and other school parents an opportunity to meet the new Pastor and Principal.
4. August 26, Saturday, at the 4:30 Mass Fr. Mike will be officially installed as Pastor by our Vicar, Bishop George Rassas. Reception to follow.
5. October 28, Saturday, at the 4:30 Mass I will celebrate my retirement with reception to follow in the lower church.
I am confident that we will have a smooth transition. We have very good people in place who will continue the fine tradition of St. Hubert. Fortunately, our infrastructure is well set, and the staff is competent, professional, and welcoming.
Jesus reminds us countless times in the Scripture not to be afraid. While we all come and go through St. Hubert, Jesus remains and leads us forward. I’m sure that He has exciting plans for
St. Hubert Parish.
I have enjoyed being your Pastor. Let us continue to pray for each other as God moves us along to the next level of our faith journey. I will continue to write a few letters in the bulletin as the new Senior Priest of the parish.
It is not yet time to say good-bye. Let us enjoy each other during these next few months. I hope you have a wonderful Fourth of July weekend, and please know that I love you.
