On Holy Thursday and on Holy Saturday the celebration of the Eucharist is permitted only at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper (Thursday evening) and at the Vigil on Holy Saturday. No Eucharist is celebrated on Good Friday.  This gives us a wonderful opportunity to come together for a different form of liturgy: Liturgy of the Hours.  

We will begin each morning of the Triduum Thursday, March 29; Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31 with the celebration of Morning Prayer at 8:30 AM in the church.

In the early Church, the Eucharist was reserved for Sunday. Liturgy of the Hours belonged to the ordinary prayer of each day and is still the Church’s daily prayer at various times throughout the day and evening. 
 
Borrowing from the Jewish tradition, Christians began their day acknowledging God’s blessings by pausing from their activities at certain times of the day and assembling for prayer. At the close of each day, God was praised with thanksgiving and invoked with pleas for a peaceful night. Liturgy of the Hours has a simple structure of psalms, scripture, and prayers and lasts about 20-25 minutes.
