If you had a really fun New Years Eve....me wishing you HAPPY NEW YEAR may not be something you want to hear yet! The best way to tell if you had A LOT of fun last night is, if the choir sounds heavenly or if it sounds like a Heavy Metal Rock band!
True story: Our family was headed downtown on one of the coldest nights, luckily our car was already warm from being in the garage. Turning off the expressway and going under a viaduct I saw trash all over. Ragged pieces of cloth, newspapers. and torn cardboard in heaps everywhere. Then, one pile moved...That wasn't trash, it was a human being doing anything he could to literally not freeze to death. It was and is horrible to think about.
I know that I can't drive all over Chicago and help the homeless, but I can help those that live around here. We don't see the people huddled up outside or those living in cars. We don't see it, because we don't believe it's happening around here, but we are wrong! Bringing in food is the best way to do our part. When you leave your warm house, take a moment to realize how fortunate we truly are. Families that receive our donations are registered, they are accountable, and they are trying to help themselves to have a better life. If nothing else, PLEASE think of the kids. It is heart breaking to know there's nothing they can do to prevent what's happening. Please be kind on January 7th & 8th with your contributions. It's easy to forget to bring in food and detergent, so I suggest at the end of the month to draw a BIG RED circle on the tip of your nose, when people start staring at you strangely or crossing to the other side of the street, .....you'll remember to bring in your donation!!
