Family #28 Our family is a single African American female with three sons ages 14, 10, 8, two daughters ages 9, 16, and a newborn granddaughter. This mom was fleeing a domestic violence situation. She currently works as a part-time CNA and is looking for more clients.
Mom is anxiously waiting to hear back from Section 8 Housing and continues to wait for the approval to move into Section 8 Housing in Gary, Indiana. There was a delay, as she requires approval for a 4 bedroom apartment as opposed to a 3 bedroom, since she has official custody of her granddaughter. Her daughter has been back on track with school, but is still not showing interest in custody of her daughter. Our mom wants her daughter to go to counseling, but reports that she is not ready yet.
Goals
● Save at least 3 to 6 months’ worth of rent.
● Stay compliant with the program for a smooth transition.
● Continue to save for move, to buy new furniture, and pay for movers.
Family #29 Our mom is a single white female with a three year old son who became homeless due to low income status. While staying with her child’s father, they were not getting along, and they lived with his parents. They then stayed with friends for about two months before she went into a shelter in November, 2016.
This mom is really doing well. She is now preparing to exit the program at the end of October, 2017. She is excited to move on and give another family a chance to become self-sufficient. She continues to work on her goals and is making great progress. Her transportation situation is more stable now that she has addressed the car repairs. She feels more secure being on her own now and has established a routine of saving money.
Goals:
● Continue to keep mental health stabilized
● Save as much as possible before October 31
st.
Both families are very grateful for the help and prayers from the Peace and Justice Parishes and Parishioners.
