On Tuesday, the Attorney General of Illinois published a report on the state’s investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse against clergy in all six Illinois dioceses, including Chicago. The report covered a period of 90 years. It looks at how the six dioceses responded over the years and is currently responding. The Cardinal’s statement provides some clarifications as well as the policies and procedures that have been in place since the early 1990s to address the sexual abuses and to help victims who have come forward for support, healing and justice. It reinforces the full cooperation in place with law enforcement and the state’s investigations. At Saint Hubert, we follow the Archdiocesan policies for anyone who volunteers or works with children or vulnerable adults to create safe environments. It includes training, background checks, codes of conduct, and mandated reporting. With the Archdiocese, we are committed to keeping our children and vulnerable adults safe against abuse.
