Building up the Body of Christ with welcoming arms, loving hearts and joyful worship.
The Liturgy Planning Committee insures that the worship and public prayer at St. Hubert Parish is celebrated well and according to the guidelines of Vatican II. The Liturgy Planning Committee serves the needs of the community of St. Hubert for worship and prayer by planning the best possible liturgical, sacramental and prayer experiences. These activities reflect the needs of the community/assembly who participate, as well as express the liturgical seasons and the mission of the Church.
The committee plans for the celebration of the liturgical seasons within the parish. Preparations are made for weekend and Holy Day Eucharistic liturgies, sacramental and prayer services and various rites.
The committee’s planning process includes familiarity with how the parish celebrated liturgical seasons in past years, as well as familiarity with the Church’s prayer for this season gained through studying and reflecting on the scriptures and other texts of the season.
The Planning Committee will determine music proposals; ritual movement and gesture; art and environment. The committee will select and prepare prayer texts when options are available. It also will review all proposals, assessing them for flow, simplicity, appropriateness and feasibility. The Liturgy Planning Committee will finalize plans and communicate them to the appropriate ministers.
Liturgy planners should be members of the parish who are gifted with a sense of liturgy and have a willingness to learn and serve. It is important to understand liturgy and be familiar with the Church’s documents on liturgy. Moreover, teamwork is needed to accept the ideas of fellow committee members and the Church’s preferences for the good of the liturgy.
To help liturgy planners keep up-to-date with liturgy, the Archdiocesan Office of Divine Worship holds training sessions. In addition, the parish will offer training sessions from time to time. Finally, members and prospective members will find literature readily available, along with annual conferences held by liturgical institutes and associations.
Meetings of the Liturgy Planning Committee take place during the year to address the various liturgical seasons. Meetings take place either in the Parish Ministry center or at members’ homes. Preparation for the meetings can take from 3 to 6 hours. Meetings are 2 hours; 1 or 2 meetings are needed to prepare a season. Planners serve on one or two teams per year.
